As a little girl, I spent most of my days outside — running through the woods, going on weekend camping trips, and digging in the dirt with my brother. One day, my mom got a wild idea: she set up a compost bin in our backyard. At the time, we thought we were just playing — tossing food scraps into a pile, looking for worms, and giggling over the messes we made. What we didn’t know then was that we were learning some of the most important lessons of our lives.
Composting became more than just a backyard experiment. It sparked my fascination with the environment and taught me the foundational truth that everything we do has an impact on the Earth. Years later, I returned to those same camping spots, only to find many of them scarred by pollution and climate change. That heartbreak became a call to action.
I realized that while we can’t reverse all environmental damage in one lifetime, we can influence the future by teaching children how to love and care for our planet from the very start.
That’s why I created my composting education project for preschoolers. It’s more than just a lesson about food waste — it’s a movement to grow compassion, curiosity, and lifelong stewardship. Through hands-on activities, storytelling, and a little bit of playing in the dirt, I’m helping little ones understand what sustainability is and why it matters.
The truth is, kids who play in the dirt today are the leaders who will protect the environment tomorrow.
With this program, I aim to make composting accessible, fun, and scalable for schools around the world. Because every banana peel tossed into the compost bin is one less item in a landfill — and every child who learns to compost becomes a seed of change.
If you’re a parent, teacher, or caregiver, I invite you to join the journey. Let’s grow a greener world, one tiny hand at a time.
